The Department of Marine Conservation and Coastal Management is
responsible to impose all existing laws to protect and conserve all
designated marine and coastal resource areas and also to protect
endangered wildlife species of Airai State. The focal goal of
this department is to maintain, monitor and protect
the conservation areas, in particular the marine areas, so that
there are no violations or disturbances in these important and protected
resource areas.
The Department is diligently working
closely with the National Conservation Agency in the
Division of Fish
and Wildlife Protection and
Palau International Coral Reef Center in its daily operation
and promotion to guard the
designated
Marine Protected
Areas (MPA), located mainly in the eastside of Airai State. In
Addition to the MPA Incentive Projects, various coastal and land
resources such as the mangroves, watersheds, and protected forest
areas are included under the protection and conservation
functions.
The daily operations of this department is implemented through the dedicated work of Mr. Marcelino
Augustine, Conservation Officer, and Mr. Clarence Polloi, Assistant
Conservation Officer & Ranger, in enforcing all required laws related
to marine and coastal protected resources areas and species, but not
limited to the consistent monitoring and citations of violations to the existing
laws to ensure protection and sustainability of these essential
natural resources in the state of Airai.
