Bird-watching

Another fascinating activity which the Department of Tourism promotes is the nature relaxation and enjoyment in bird-watching.  Airai is a primal habitat of many endemic birds including the only found rare ground dove in Palau.

If you are an outdoor spirit the natural beauty of the new eco-tourism foot trail surrounded also by many of cultural and natural resources is another optimal alternative of activities and attractions.

Visiting Traditional Sites

Airai State believes in preserving it's culture and heritage, and as a result to this day a traditional men's meeting house still stands, over a hundred years old.

 

Visiting WWII Relics

A Kaingungshio, or telecommunication center for the Japanese during World War II, and other World War  II relics still remain in it's modernized environment.

Fishing

Fishing plays an important role for the people of Palau, and Airai State is certainly abundant with reef and deep water fish. Beginners can learn to line fish, while the more experienced fishermen can out reef fishing, or deep sea fishing. Or if you're in it for the sport you can Catch & Release, and fishing derbies are held throughout the year so come on down  experience your first catch today!

Exploring Rock Islands

The world is still awed by Palau's peculiar floating rock formations, but these limestone splendors are home to many fascinating creatures, flora, and fauna. Not to mention the sandy beaches making it an ideal place get away for picnics, camping, or just letting loose and relaxing.

Exploring Caves

If you like adventure and are looking for an experience out of an Indiana Jones movie, then you will enjoy Airai's prestigious caves, that were naturally formed by the ever-changing tide, built as shelter by our ancestors, or left behind by the Japanese during World War II.

Sports

Airai State is home to the Airai Aces, renowned overall champions of Palau's Major League Baseball with a record of wins. Sports is also an important part of society. It brings the citizens of Airai both young and old together, where they can share a common interest. Airai State has a tennis court, basketball courts, and a baseball field where tournaments for the state or any organization are held. Through Parks & Rec. the venues can be rented out to anyone seeking to host a sport at the existing parks.

If boat rides are not for you, then get up-close and personal with mother nature, on an exhilarating kayak ride around the rock islands, while a natural and exotic marine wildlife aquarium rests right under you.
